#WeWantiPhoneInSerbia
Not so long ago, about a month back, the following hashtag popped up on Twitter: #WeWantiPhoneInSerbia. It quickly got so popular (around 30,000 tweets) that some of the leading news outlets reported it as a big deal, how people were up in arms, demanding that the carriers add this product to their lineup. Some influential people on the internet joined the whole movement too. And now I’m asking myself: is this for real?
Is it really possible that, with all the shit our country is stuck in, there are people who think it’s such a tragedy that they can’t buy an iPhone? Is it possible they care that much about being part of the crowd that showers Apple products with so much love, purely on the strength of propaganda and marketing, the need to be part of mainstream culture, and not out of any real need for what Apple products can do, because I’d argue you can do all of that right now, here in Serbia, for a lot less money? Is it possible people actually do this?
And then I realise that it is, and I ask myself why I keep asking myself questions like that over and over again.
Looks like it’s bigger than me.
